You want to create an endless length of halyard.
The small loop will grow tighter with each pull of the halyard.
Feed the loop through the eye of the snap hook.
When looking at the front of the flag the flag should facing to the right of the flagpole.
On a flag with a rope and toggle the toggle is usually on the top of the flag tie the rope from the bottom of the flag to the other end of the halyard.
Stretch the flag down the rope to measure where the bottom snap hook should be placed.
If the flag is fitted with a toggle this will normally be fitted at the top of the flag.
If you are flying the union jack flag it is important that your display it the correct way up.
